Zombie Virus on Mulberry street (2009) DVDrip

A zombie apocalypse-style story about rat people taking over New York seems like a long-shot for smartest horror film of the year, but MULBERRY STREET is it. In the tradition of Romero, Jim Mickle’s debut is also action-packed, highly political and intensely horrifying.

Co-writer Nick Damici stars as an ex-boxer living in an aging NYC apartment building slated for demolition to make way for new development. On the day his daughter is set to return home – after suffering a facial wound while serving in the military overseas – a mysterious virus erupts across the city that turns people in rabid, flesh-eating rat creatures. As chaos consumes the streets, he bands together with the rest of the tight-knit tenants, including a drag queen, geriatric war veterans and a teenager whose mother is trapped at the bar she works at down the street. When the infection threatens to take over the building, the unlikely heroes make a final stand.
Inventively shot guerilla-style in the streets of the Big Apple and in Damici’s apartment, MULBERRY STREET is a triumph of indie filmmaking.
