The Big Bang Theory Season 3 :

In physical cosmology, the Big Bang in scientific theory according to which the universe emerged from a state of very massive high density and temperature of around 13.7 billion years ago. Big Bang theory is based on the redshift, according to Hubble’s law, as observed for distant galaxies, and together with the cosmological principle indicates that space is expanding in line with the Friedmann-Lemaître model of general relativity. When one extrapolates this expansion backwards in time, the observations show that the universe has expanded from a state in which all matter and energy in the universe had immense temperature and density. Among physicists there is no widely accepted theory for what happened even earlier, although general relativity predicts a gravitational singularity related.

The term Big Bang is used both in the narrow sense to refer to the time when the observed expansion of the universe according to Hubble’s law began – calculated to have occurred 13.7 billion (1.37 × 1010) years ago (± 2%) – and in more general sense to refer to the prevailing cosmological paradigm explaining the origin of the universe and the expansion together with the composition of the primary matter of nucleosynthesis as predicted by the Alpher-Bethe-Gamow theory.

One consequence of the Big Bang is that conditions in today’s universe is different from the conditions which were applicable in the distant past and which will apply in the distant future. Apart from the model was George Gamow in 1948 able to predict – at least qualitatively – that there might exist a cosmic background radiation (CMB – Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation). This CMB was discovered in 1960 and gave the Big Bang theory of an accepting its main rival theory, Steady State theory.
