State of play:
The Last King of Scotland director Kevin McDonald teams with screenwriter Matthew Michael Carnahan of this American adaptation of the successful British mini-series about the suspicious circumstances that a rising congressman and a dogged reporter on a dangerous collision course. U. S. Congressman Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck) is beautiful, impassive, and head of the rising power with unprecedented speed. It is the future of his party and gain control as chairman of a committee on defense spending, he has the right connections. When approaching the presidential race to begin Washington insiders speculate that Collins earned his party’s nomination for “Top Job” in the country. The prospect of Collins, to be president appears increasingly unlikely, as his research assistant / mistress is brutally murdered, and some unpleasant truths to the surface. Collins was once a close friend Cal McAffrey (Russell Crowe), now a top reporter in the capital of the country. It is the task entrusted to investigate to Collins by his ruthless editor, Cameron (Oscar winner Helen Mirren), recruits McAffrey fellow reporters Della (Rachel McAdams) to identify the traces of the truth and the killer. But McAffrey has walked straight into a cover-up of unprecedented proportions, and a game in which billions of dollars at stake, life, love and integrity are a luxury, not afford.
