PBS Nature – The Loneliest Animals (2009)

Around the world, unique and fascinating species threatened with extinction by hunting and habitat destruction, endangered animals in all types of environmental impact. Biologists, conservationists are working to breed Wildlife Preservation Center, and zoos and to protect rare and endangered animals, when and where they can, but many species, until the last few individuals and the face of an increasingly uncertain future.

For some, however, the future is all too clear. Lonesome George, a Pinta tortoise is the Galapagos Islands, the last of its kind for centuries until they believed extinct species is well-fed sailors and pirates on the high seas. George alone survived. But when George dies come, millions of years of evolution to an end. Other species, such as Spix’s macaws, lemurs have been Iberian lynx, rhinos, black-footed ferret and Chinese Rafetus turtles, was also on their way to George to close as the loneliest animal in the world, to help provide hope for a better outcome.

Each type presents unique challenges in difficulty, including inbreeding and the lack of genetic diversity, rivalry to an extreme degree and individuals who may never have another of their kind. There are a number of successful breeding in captivity. As that of Black-footed Ferret, used to be completely extinct, it is their natural home was introduced in the U.S. after an incredible level of involvement of scientists again. But recovered in artificial settings are not set endangered animals in the clear – the population grows, but without success, to the preservation and maintenance of their wild habitat, they are always confined to laboratories and sanctuaries.
