Homicide Nate Burns lived a hard life in Baltimore, but moved to a small town in Alaska, where he took a job as head of the police. His flight from Baltimore to the fact that his partner was shot dead just weeks before it to explain itself. He has trouble dealing with his death and feels responsible for what happened. He is not very well received by the residents, because there are many other uses for the same work. Nate has a direct interest, Meg Galligan, a young pilot, whose father left and disappeared in 1994. It is constantly with her single mother, Charlene, who only twenty years older than she.
Nate soon be asked to examine two stranding climbers in the mountains and Meg asks for help to get there. After their rescue, he finds a frozen corpse, which turns out to be Meg’s father. It soon becomes clear that he was killed when the ax to kill him was still attached to his body. Meg is worth mourning for him, because they always mad at him for abandoning his family, but Charlene not appear on the news. Nate will soon begin collecting information about the murder, and soon realized that nobody in the town called on him, and he had contacts with several women.
Meg proposes to examine Nate, but he hesitates, and explains that he moved from Baltimore to murder cases to avoid. If they start at a time, Max, one of the two persons responsible for the death of the father of Meg, Pat, is slain by the other murderers. He found the next day with a typed suicide note on the computer. What Nate begins to suspect that something is wrong with the death of Pat’s doing Meg is furious with him because Max was a popular man in town. The case was later closed, as it appears that Max has announced the murder in his diary. Nate, however, thinks that he is not the murderer was, and refuse to believe he committed suicide.
With the help of Meg, he continues the investigation. As their relationship to a new level, he finds that they are respected and followed. Fearing that someone might be slain by them, he begins to question everyone in the city. The killer continues to kill, as a show dog, is dead. Shortly after Nate and Meg are concerned, he was fired after recent complaints from citizens, the city believes that all problems started when Nate arrived in the city. Shortly before returning to the view, Baltimore, gets an earring was found beside the body of Pat’s. At the end of Ed Woolcott is revealed as the murderer. His motive was part of a deal gambling. When the police arrive to arrest him, he holds a woman hostage and shoots Meg in the arm. Finally, Nate shot him, and he was arrested.
