BBC – The Pre-Raphaelites (2009)

Towards the middle of the 19th century, a small group of young artists in England reacted vigorously against what they felt was “the frivolous nature of the Day: This reaction is known as the Pre-Raphaelites. Their goal was to bring English art (as it was) back to a larger truth of nature. “She admired the simplicity of the early 15th century, and they felt this admiration turned into a brotherhood. Burst into the spotlight in 1848, and the shocking age with a new kind of radical art.

Part 1: The Brotherhood
The opening section examines the origins of the Brotherhood and the first results, and looks at some of its most important early works that they are hostile criticism and centuries of academic education lifted her photos.

Part 2: Landscape Painting
This second part looks at how they go through the transformation of the landscape painting with the microscopic examination of the natural world, about ten years for the French impressionists.

Part 3: Mass Production
This last section looks at how the Pre-Raphaelites had outgrown the avant-garde in the later years, and began to fame and fortune with art designed to embrace the masses know.
