300 spartans

Told is a soldier from Sparta. The Spartans are shown as a race of merciless warriors to kill the deformed and sickly infants immediately after birth and raise their children with the greatest severity, this is called Agoge. Furthermore, the narrator tells of the legend of a 15-year-old boy who is sent in an initiation ritual alone in the wilderness, and there is against a wild wolf. 25 years later, the boy King Leonidas I of Sparta.

In 480 BC, Xerxes, Great King of Persia, marched with a huge army to Greece. He sends a messenger to Sparta to offer one without a fight annexation Leonidas of Sparta. This feels the offer as an insult and threw the negotiators, including his company into a well. Before Leonidas goes to war to defend Sparta, he asked about the old law, the oracle to his war plan. The Oracle is, however, been bribed by Xerxes, and denied him his blessing on the pretext of Karneiafestes, which forbids any military action for nine days.

In the Council, Leonidas is heavily criticized for his war plans – because of the oracle, but especially because of the hopelessness of a struggle against the Persian numerically far superior force. Still, Leonidas takes 300 Spartans, all those who have already fathered a male heir, “wandering”. His goal is to stop the Persians at the narrow pass of Thermopylae.

Along the way, join the Arcadians to the Spartans. For the Persians are forced to use the path on the Thermopylae, the Greeks build a wall of stones and killed the Persian scouts. A physically exiled Spartan named Ephialtes Leonidas warns against a hidden path through which the Persians could encircle the Greeks. At the same time he asked Leonidas to be able to fight with the Spartans against the Persians. So he wants to clear the name of his father, who had fled with him immediately after his birth from Sparta, in order to prevent the killing of the son. Leonidas rejects him because of his disability, although with Ephialtes carry a lance, could weaken his weak Schildarm but the phalanx of the Greeks. It offers Ephialtes to the task, instead, wounded or fallen warriors and their horses to take care of what this has hurt away.

Before the attacks start to give the Persians to the Greeks an opportunity to lay down their weapons, but Leonidas replied only: “Come out and get them.” The Greeks repel the first attacks of the Persians. Then Xerxes, Leonidas asks for an audience and tries to persuade him to surrender. Leonidas refuses and goes back with his men, the next wave of attacks.

In the meantime, the wife of Leonidas, Queen Gorgo attempts to convince the Senate to support her husband with the army and fight for the freedom of Sparta. Senator Theron takes advantage of the primacy given by sex and blackmails the queen. He will not contradict it in the Senate, but they must Theron their will. In order to save her husband, the queen goes on the offer. Theron, however, breaks his word, and in the Senate, accused of having offered to him and others. Then stabs him to the queen, and Persian coins fall from his pocket – as recognized by the Senate Theron as a traitor.

Meanwhile it became known that Ephialtes has betrayed the secret path to the Persians. The position of the Greeks is so hopeless, because without the strategic position at Thermopylae Pass, they are no match for the numerically superior Persians. The Arcadians retire because of that. The wounded Dilios is sent by Leonidas to Sparta to tell of the brave fight against the Persians. His only desire is to remember that the people of the Greeks in his act. Dilios joins the Arcadians, and goes on a trip to Sparta.

The king is left with his remaining fighters to face the last battle. One last time, he rejected an offer of surrender, he would rather die a free Greek, rather than continue living as a war lord of the Greeks under Xerxes. So he and his men reached up to the death against the vastly superior Persians to fight but by the supreme goal of life after her performance: In the war with Sparta fall as a free man. And in this final battle, Leonidas’s assertion of the Persian Great King, a deity, and so invulnerable to be contradicted by the Persian king, hurled with a spear wounded in the face.

A year later Dilios is itself the leader of the army of the Greeks and is now the Persians at Plataea at 10,000 Spartans who cite an army of 30,000 Greeks. Since the Persian army at this time is greater than just a “ridiculous” three times, there would be – so Dilios – “a good prospect for any Greek.”
